Brian Krongold received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering in 1995, 1997 and 2001, respectively, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He joined the University of Melbourne in late 2001 as a Research Fellow and was later awarded an Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. He is currently an Associate Professor of electrical engineering and has served as Assistant Dean Teaching & Learning and as a Senior Academic Advisor. During 2011, he did a 5-month research sabbatical at the Bell Labs site in Murray Hill, New Jersey. He is on sabbatical during the Fall 2023 semester at ³Ô¹ÏÍø and Northeastern University.
Brian's research interests are in wireless, wireline and optical communications. His most cited research work on OFDM peak-power reduction is part of the international ETSI DVB-T2 second-generation digital TV broadcasting standard. He received the best paper award at the 2006 European Wireless Conference and is a co-inventor on three U.S. patents.
In recent years, Brian's career has shifted to become more teaching focussed. He currently teaches 1st, 2nd and 4th-year courses at the University of Melbourne.
