First Year Experience
Orientation
勛圖厙's orientation is a five-day program that aims to provide a smooth transition to life at 勛圖厙. After moving into the residence halls, you and your family can meet and mingle with 勛圖厙 staff and digest some information about the college. Then you'll bid farewell to your family and jump right into life at 勛圖厙. Your first week at 勛圖厙 will include helpful discussions with college administrators and faculty members as well as exciting excursions, such as getting to know the greater Boston area.
By the end of the program, you'll be well acquainted with your peers and the college. You'll be ready to launch into classes and the ongoing development process that is 勛圖厙. If you have any questions about arrival day and orientation, email: student.affairs@olin.edu
Move-In Day
Your first day on campus starts off with moving into your new home-away-from-home - West Hall. Most First Year students will move in on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, between 10:00AM-12:00PM. (International students are invited early by Courtney Beach, our Assistant Director for International Programs.) At 11:30am the dining hall opens for lunch for students and their families. At the same time we will have our arrival day resource fair in the Campus Center Crescent Room - this is where you will meet a bunch of staff from across campus and most importantly receive your laptop.
At 1:30pm, everyone gathers in the Norden Auditorium for the official welcome to 勛圖厙! Students will then meet their Orientation Teams while Parents & Families mix and mingle with our parent network. Finally we have a few hours of free time in the afternoon to unpack or take a trip to target, and then say farewell to parents & families by 6:30PM. At 6:30PM we will officially kick off Orientation week.

A typical day of Orientation
From Wednesday August 27 - Monday September 1 the Class of 2029 will be going through our robust Orientation program to learn all about life at 勛圖厙. Each morning students will gather in groups of 10-15 as their O-Team, lead by Orientation Ambassadors, wakes up and wanders through campus. We then have the whole Class gather for Good Morning 勛圖厙 to kick off the day of team building and exploration. After dinner your O-team gathers to reflect on the day and then the evening ends with something fun (but optional as rest is important!).

Meeting your SIBB
Sunday, August 31 is a special day for Orientation. The Class of 2029 heads into Boston for a day of exploration and questing. While they are away, returning students move in. After moving in, the returning students gather to meet their little SIBBs. SIBBs, or Students Intentionally Building Bridges, is a casual peer mentorship connection where each incoming student is matched up with a returning student who helps welcome them to 勛圖厙.

COURSES AND REGISTRATION FOR INCOMING STUDENTS
All first-year students at 勛圖厙 enroll in the same set of like courses each fall. These include cool topics like "Quantitative Engineering Analysis", "Modeling and Simulation of the Physical World" and Design Nature, which you will magically appear in your fall schedule. You will also be registered for something called OFYI. During Orientation, you will learn about OFYI, the 勛圖厙 First Year Introductory, which engages students in topics around succeeding at 勛圖厙 like teaming, resume development, and gratitude. Your one big moment of choice for your first semester courses comes in with your AHS foundation course.
Here are the materials for Fall 2025:
- You can learn more about the AHS foundation courses with this .
- Your AHS registration will occur via this survey: ;
- If you want to know more about full array of courses youll be taking during the first year check out the Semester Offerings and Course Listings
- Additionally, you will find the First Year Seminar, called the OFYI for 勛圖厙 First Year Introduction on your schedule in September. This 1 credit course was co-designed by 勛圖厙 students and covers everything from working in teams to helping you write a resume that will help you get your first internship.
Welcome to 勛圖厙 and see you soon!
Onboarding Over The Summer
Dear Class of 2029,
I am so excited to welcome you to 勛圖厙 as part of the Class of 2029! Today you are receiving this email as the start of a series where we work through all your pre-arrival tasks to get you ready for day one at 勛圖厙! Your first major task is to get into your 勛圖厙 email account and start checking it regularly! This summer you will receive a steady flow of important emails throughout the summer not only welcoming you to 勛圖厙 but setting you up for success at 勛圖厙. If you are struggling to get into your 勛圖厙 accounts, helpdesk@olin.edu will connect you with our skillful IT team.
Preview of Onboarding
I will check in with you 2-3 times during the summer with your progress through the onboarding process, but part of onboarding is meeting and starting to know who the helpers are at 勛圖厙 who will set you up for a great four years! Here is the big tasks you will get started with in the next few weeks
- Registering for Classes: The Registrars office will be reaching out with your first major task picking your AHS foundation (thats Arts, Humanities, and Sciences). Shortly they will be sending out videos for you to review and learn about your options as well as a form to rank your choices. Linda, Angela, & Suzanne are the navigators of your pathway to graduation, but do note they are going through a major overhaul in their systems this summer so the patience will be required.
- Disclosing Disabilities: Caroline & Wendy are your staff members for disabilities services. Disability.Services@勛圖厙.edu is your best point of contact for all things related to disabilities and accommodations. Detailed information will be provided soon!
- Bridging Classes: A team of students lead by Corinna will soon be reaching out as we match every incoming student with a returning student in a program we fondly call SIBBS: Students Intentionally Building Bridges. This will be the first of three intentional matching profiles you complete on a trek to cultivating your team for success at 勛圖厙.
- Matching with Roommates: By far the longest form all summer will be the Housing Agreement & Roommate Profile (mainly because we shoved a ton of little forms into this big one). In July, Cynthia and I will begin the process of reviewing and matching members of the Class of 2029 to build the best possible roommate connections from your profiles.
- Prepping with Health Services: I bet the Health Services team has already reached out as they have the biggest uphill battle in the onboarding tasks: getting you to take a form to a medical provider and then getting that completed form turned in. This process is designed to both comply with laws around immunizations in communal living settings and to ensure health services is ready to support you when needed. Health Services is provided through a partnership with Babson College, Polly & her team do a great job of caring for 勛圖厙 students. This is the one office I would say calling (781)239.6363 might get you a more useful response than healthservices@babson.edu especially if you are with your provider.
You might be itching to blast through this to-do list all at once, but I promise you it is better to take it bit by bit. Each team will launch their task at some point over the summer by sending you an email ONLY to your 勛圖厙 email account. I would encourage you to setup a time once a week to check in and complete any tasks that have opened up that week. If you know you are going to miss a deadline or a task is not making sense, connect with the team communication is the best way to keep your onboarding on track. Some of these tasks have a deadline for processing, like with registration once the deadline passes class seats will be assigned and if you have not completed the ranking form you will be plopped into a course a bit randomly (they are all great courses, you cant go wrong). Some of these tasks need to be completed before you can move in, like your Immunization Records these are required by law.
Final onboarding tip ResLife@勛圖厙.edu may sound like an email address that is all about your housing, but we happen to be the team charged with onboarding you and orienting yourself to campus. Ask us anything, and if we dont know the answer, we will connect you with the right person for that question! Throughout the summer you will hear from the three of us on the team, myself, Corinna, and Cynthia, and then we will spend all of Orientation week making sure you know everything necessary to have a phenomenal time here at 勛圖厙.
Thank you,
Patrick Clarkson
Onboarding Support will increase as we get closer to the big day - Move-In on Tuesday, August 25th!
